What's Up With Deciem?

Seriously though...what's happening with Deciem?

Yesterday I went to restock on my holy grail products from The Ordinary and I was insanely confused when the Deciem website greeted me with a blank, red screen.

Deciem lovers have been questioning the brand when Brandon Truaxe took over Deciem's Instagram account back in February of 2018. He's posted some seriously odd stuff, including calling out Drunk Elephant on the insanely high price of their marula oil. I actually unfollowed the account quite a while ago because things got so weird.

Brandon Truaxe posted a cryptic video to Instagram, filled with incomplete sentences and random information. Brandon said that Deciem would be closing down for the time being due to "criminal activity" from people at Deciem. At this point, we really have no idea what is going on internally at Deciem, but I hope Brandon shares the details soon.

Most of the Deciem stores were closed down, with rumours of reopening in February 2019. My heart breaks for everyone who worked at Deciem, because they're all unemployed now.

I'm not a news reporter, so I'm only going to tackle this from the consumer perspective. I'm going to share some information I've uncovered through talking to people on Reddit and in The Ordindary & Deciem Chat Room group on Facebook.

OK SO THE IMPORTANT CONSUMER RELATED STUFF:

On October 8th, people reported The Ordinary's website to be up and running (it is as I'm writing this) and a lot of people were quick to add products to their cart. People were receiving confirmation emails from Deciem monkeys.

Today, I tried to stock up on my holy grails (I was about to buy 6 bottles of the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum) and nothing would stay in my cart. I kept adding items and clicking to view my cart only to have it say it's empty. I think its safe to say you probably won't be able to place an order on the site.

According to The Ordinary & Deciem Chat Room group on Facebook, orders that have previously been placed will be fulfilled. But from my experience, it doesn't look like any new orders will go through.

I think it's probably a good time to buy back-ups of your essentials either on Beauty Bay or Well.

Personally, I feel really bad for everyone who is affected by this. No new outlet has posted any information on what will happen to all of Deciem's employees, so I'm just hoping those who worked in the Deciem stores or warehouse will be okay financially. I'm definitely upset at the fact that I can't restock on my products (I literally JUST ran out and was waiting for my pay check to order - UGH).

If you're in need of some alternative Deciem products here are some links to subreddits with tons of product recommendations:

I hope this all gets sorted out, because The Ordinary is a fabulous brand that was truly changing the beauty industry and the way people viewed skincare.

xoxo,

T.
